Track and manage inventory accurately by assigning the right unit of measurement to each item.
Adding a Unit of Measurement (UOM) ensures accurate inventory tracking, reporting, and pricing, especially if your products are sold in varying quantities such as kilograms, boxes, or hours. Here’s how to set it up.
How to Add a Unit of Measurement (UOM) to an Item
Step 1: To begin, go to the New Item page. Under the General Info tab, you’ll find a field labeled Unit of Measurement.
Step 2: Click the Unit of Measurement dropdown. You’ll see a list of predefined units like
HOUR
UNIT
KG
PIECES
BOX
Choose the appropriate unit that matches how the item is measured or sold.
Step 3: If the unit you need isn’t listed, click + New UOM. This opens a pop-up form where you can define and save a custom unit.
💡 Tip: Use clear, specific names for custom units to avoid confusion later on.
Step 4: Once the correct unit is selected or created, continue filling in the rest of the item details.
Click Save to finalize. The selected UOM will now be associated with the item and used in relevant transactions and reports.
✅ Assigning the correct UOM is a small step that prevents big mistakes, helping you maintain accuracy across purchasing, sales, and inventory.
